Cleaning Your Cutting Board

Very often we get asked, "How do you best deep clean your cutting boards?" and our simple reply is always,"Use natural products and avoid the dishwasher."

What's really nice about woodNflex cutting boards is they easily fit in the kitchen sink. This way with some soap and hot water you can clean them while you do other dishes.

But sometimes wood stains and gets dry, so you have to take a few extra steps to keep them in tip-top shape. This is where the elbow grease kicks in...

There are many reasons to clean and care for your cutting boards, but none as important as the health and wellness of you and your family. So here are some simple tips to follow:

(from Food52.com)

Best products to use - any you likely have most of these in your kitchen already:

  • lemons - the best scrubber for wood
  • lemon juice - a natural cleanser
  • kosher salt
  • baking soda
  • white vinegar
  • wood safe oils - our favorites are fractionated linseed oil and fractionated coconut oil
  • butcher block oils and waxes preferably made with bees wax

Best time to do deep clean:

  • after hand washing in the sink
  • whenever the wood looks dry
  • when it gets stained from colorful veggies and fruit
  • if it was used for raw meat like chicken, beef or pork
  • if it was used for carving meats and poultry before serving

Want some extra tips on how to get it done?  Here is a great post from Food52.com that gives further explanations.
